Ahead of eight straight home games in the coming weeks, the Wayne State College softball team closed out their second road doubleheader of the weekend.
From Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead, Minnesota, WSC visited MSU Moorhead on Sunday.
Wayne State College saw their five-game winning streak come to an end suffering losses of 4-1 and 1-0. WSC fell to 23-14 (8-5 NSIC) while MSU Moorhead improved to 14-29 (6-10 NSIC).
In the opening game, MSU Moorhead began with two runs in the home half of the first inning.
Following a scoreless second, the host Dragons added a single run in the third.
Neither team scored in the fourth until Wayne State College plated their lone run of the game. Sophomore Masyn Bunnell scored on an error.
MSU Moorhead answered back with a single run a half of an inning later.
Final favored MSU Moorhead winning 4-1 and outhitting WSC, 6-5. The host Dragons committed one error compared to zero errors by Wayne State College.
Five Wildcat singles were posted by sophomore Jordyn Klein, sophomore Taylor Coleman, redshirt senior Mary Krystofiak, freshman Maddie Scobee and redshirt sophomore Taylor Fritz.
Masyn Bunnell scored.
Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (40 pitches) suffered the loss in two and two-thirds allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out four batters. Senior Grace Lucka (58) worked three and a third innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out and walking four batters each.
During the second outing, both teams were scoreless the opening four and a half innings until MSU Moorhead plated the lone run in the bottom of the fifth.
Final favored the host Dragons winning 1-0 as both teams recorded six hits and zero errors.
Jordyn Klein singled twice to lead WSC.
Taylor Coleman, sophomore Emilee Marth, Taylor Fritz and Maddie Scobee all singled.
Coleman (72 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing an earned run off six hits while striking out four batters, walking two and hitting one. Senior Samantha Felt (six) worked an inning forcing three groundouts.
