WSC softball splits one-run games, felt surpasses single season save mark

Following a 10-day break from competition, the Wayne State College softball team began league action on the road.

From the Minot Dome in Minot, North Dakota, WSC visited Minot State University on Saturday.

The visiting Wildcats first suffered a 1-0 loss followed by a 2-1 victory over the Beavers. With the split, Wayne State College is now 16-10 (1-1 NSIC) as Minot State moved to 13-12 (1-1 NSIC).

During game one, the opening four innings were scoreless until Minot State plated the lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

Final favored Minot State winning 1-0 and outhitting WSC, 4-2 while committing one error compared to zero by WSC.

Sophomore Emilee Marth and senior Hayley Murphy both singled for WSC.

Redshirt freshman Kennadi Borngrebe (pitch count NA) suffered the complete game loss allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.

From the second outing, Wayne State College began by scoring twice in the top of the first inning. Marth posted a sac-fly scoring sophomore Jordyn Klein as freshman Leah Chance also scored on a fielding error.

Following a scoreless second, Minot State answered with a run in the third for the final run of the game.

Final favored Wayne State College winning 2-1 as both teams recorded four hits. Minot State had one error compared to zero by WSC.

Leah Chance doubled and scored as Jordyn Klein singled and scored.

Freshman Maddie Scobee and senior Lauren Laudick both singled as Emilee Marth accounted for a RBI.

Sophomore Taylor Coleman (pitch count NA) picked up the win in five innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out four batters. Senior Samantha Felt earned the save in the final two scoreless innings allowing one hit while striking out one batter. Felt recorded her fifth save of the season which surpassed the single season record for WSC softball previously held by Katie Goetzinger in 2009 and 2011 (four each season).
