WSC throwers perform well at Blizzard Buster meet

Wayne State’s throwers performed well in the Blizzard Buster Invitational at Concordia University in Seward on Saturday.

In women’s action, Tia Jones posted a pair of second place finishes that included an NCAA provisional mark in the shot put. Her throw of 46 feet, 5 1/4 inches was good for second, and she also finished second in the hammer throw at 166-5. Kenzie Sullivan also finished second in the discus, with a best throw of 152-0.

Mckenzie Scheil placed third in the hammer throw at 164-5, followed by Nicole Heeren in ninth (150-3). Sullivan was also seventh in the shot put at 41-11 1/4.

In men’s action, Ben Allen captured a first-place finish in the shot put with a best mark of 51-11 1/4, while Cade Kalkowski won the hammer throw with a best toss of 191-7.

Dylan Kaup came in second in the hammer throw (187-8), Jayle Hinkle was fifth in the shot put (50-6), Matt Nemec placed sixth in the discus (137-4) and Richard Sweeney was eighth in the hammer throw at 165-10.

Wayne State will compete next Saturday at the Nebraska Invite in Lincoln.
