The Wayne State volleyball team is ranked No. 2 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, moving up one spot from last week.
The Wildcats have extended their streak of consecutive national rankings to 91 dating back to Sept. 28, 2009. They improved to 8-0 on the season by winning four matches, all 3-0 sweeps, at the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves Classic in Colorado over the weekend.
Wayne State is part of a Northern Sun Conference hammerlock on the top of the coaches poll. Concordia-St. Paul is the unanimous No. 1 team in the country, followed by Wayne State, Minnesota Duluth and fourth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State. Six of the top 10 teams are from the NSIC, including No. 9 Winona State and No. 10 Northern State, while Augustana is ranked No. 20.
The Wildcats open Northern Sun Conference play this week as Wayne State visits Sioux Falls Thursday night at 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday 2 p.m. match in the home opener against fourth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State.
