The Wayne State College volleyball team was awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award announced by the coaches’ association home office in Lexington, Ky.

The Wildcat volleyball team recorded a cumulative grade-point average of 3.83 during the 2016-17 academic school year to earn the team academic honor.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, is celebrating its 25th year and honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed academic excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

Wayne State is one of 118 schools in NCAA Division II to earn the award and one of 11 schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to receive the honor. Wayne State is the lone program in NCAA Div. II to have received the academic honor for a minimum of 15 consecutive years, having received the honor every year since 2002, and the Wildcats ranked in the top 25 in all of NCAA Division II with its 3.83 team grade-point average.
