Two days of action against fellow regional opponents closed out on Tuesday for the Wayne State College women’s golf team.
Back at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri, WSC competed against 12 other teams on March 31 – April 1.
Wayne State College remained in the same spot with scores of 307 and 323 for a two-day total of 630 to place runner-up. WSC finished four strokes behind the champion of Augustana (305/321) with a 626.
Washburn (317/320) moved up one spot to earn a two-way tie for third with Minnesota State-Mankato (308/329) both totaling at 637.
Victoria Woytassek from Minnesota State-Mankato (72/78) and Shannon McCormick from Augustana tied for the top spots of the NSIC Preview each with a 150.
Freshman Gaia Stancikova led the Wildcat women with rounds of 72 and 79, just one shot back from first shooting a 151.
Other team scoring for WSC included freshman Camryn Johnson (led after day one) with rounds of 71 and 86 for a 157 to tie for 11th; junior Saffire Sayre (82/78) moved up 18 spots with a 160 to tie for 16th; senior Abbigail Brodersen (82/80) moved up 14 spots with a 162 to tie for 20th and sophomore Erica Lee (83/88) fell five spots with a 171 to tie for 51st.
Individual scores were also posted by junior Meg Thompson (78/81) with a one spot increase thanks to a 159 to tie for 14th; sophomore Hailey Kenkel (82/92) fell 24 spots with a 174 to finish 58th as sophomore Olivia Ottman (99/96) remained at 79th with a 195.
The Wayne State College women’s golf team will next travel to Afton, Oklahoma for the Spring Regional Preview Monday, April 7 – Tuesday, April 8.
