WSC women third, men second at Wildcat Classic

The Wayne State cross country teams hosted the Wildcat Classic Friday at Wayne Country Club, with the women finishing third and the men second five-team meet.

In women’s action, Norfolk junior Alison Stineman was the top Wayne State runner, placing 13th overall in a time of 20:52, followed by Kelsey Larsen in 16th in 21:42.

Madeline Kunz and Maelee Beacom followed in 20th and 23rd place respectively with times of 22:01 and 22:13.  Other Wildcat runners were Ava McGown in 25th at 22:24, Sydney Escritt 28th in 23:31 and Kenzie Mosel 29th with a time of 23:36.

Augustana captured the team title with 15 points followed by Southwest Minnesota State in second at 60, Wayne State third with 68 points and Mount Marty fourth at 106. Bellevue University also competed in the meet.

In men’s action, junior Titus Kiptoo paced Wayne State with a seventh-place finish in a time of 26:54 on the 8,000-meter course. Brandon Mundorf followed in 10th place at 27:38.

Abe Schroeder crossed the line in 18th place in a time of 28:35 with Gabe Peitz 21st in 28:59. Other Wayne State runners were Quentin Dreyer 22nd at 29:00, Brandon Mitzel 26th in 29:29 and Isaac Richards 27th at 29:29.50.

Augustana scored 15 points to win the team title followed by Wayne State with 65, Augustana unattached with 77, Mount Marty 95 and Southwest Minnesota State with 130 points.  Bellevue University also had runners compete in the meet.

Wayne State competes again on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Dordt Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa.
