WSC women's soccer records home tie, suffers first loss of season

A four-match home stretch closed out this past weekend for Wayne State College women's soccer.

From the WSC Soccer Pitch, the Wildcats finished in a 2-2 tie on Oct. 3 against Concordia-St. Paul followed by a 2-1 loss against Winona State during Senior Day on Oct. 5.

The Wildcats are now 4-1-4 overall and 3-1-2 in the NSIC.  CSP is now 6-1-2 (3-1-2 NSIC) and the Warriors moved to 3-2-3 (2-2-2 NSIC).

During the draw with the Golden Bears, the Wildcats trailed 2-0 five minutes into the second half.

Senior Alyssa Ferin scored in the 75th minute off an assist by freshman Taylor Woods along with a goal by sophomore Morgan Mancuso thanks to an assist by sophomore Mia Gonzalez in the 88th minute.

CSP held a 14-6 advantage in shot attempts including 7-2 on goal.

Mancuso attempted a team-high two shots with one in the back of the net. 

Sophomore Alexa Hostetter recorded three saves and allowed two goals in 77:57 of time in goal. Freshman Katelyn Miller played the final 12:03 recording two additional saves.

During the loss with Winona State, the Wildcats scored the equalizer goal from senior Reagan Allen in the 62nd minute before allowing a goal with about seven minutes left in the match.

Winona State University outshot WSC, 20-13 including 10-4 on goal.

Senior Paige Pemberton attempted a team-high three shots. 

Hofstetter recorded eight saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes in goal.

Wayne State College will next play back-to-back on the road at University of Mary (2-4-3/0-3-3 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. and at Minot State (3-4-2/3-1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 12 at noon.
