WSC women's soccer closes home schedule with weekend split

As a trio of NSIC road matches remain, the Wayne State College women's soccer team ended their home schedule in late October.

From the WSC Soccer Pitch, the Wildcats first suffered a 2-1 loss against Northern State on Oct. 24 followed by a 4-2 victory over Jamestown (ND) on Oct. 26.

Wayne State College is now 6-5-4 (5-5-2 NSIC) and closed their home schedule at 4-2-3.

In the loss to Northern State, sophomore Morgan Mancuso netted a goal in the 23rd minute for the lone Wildcat scoring. It was one of two shot attempts for Mancuso.

Sophomore Alexa Hofstetter allowed two goals and recorded one save in the first half while freshman Katelyn Miller played the second half collecting two saves.

Northern State outshot WSC, 14-6 including 6-4 on goal. Both teams were called for 13 fouls.

During the home victory, senior Paige Pemberton scored in the 15th minute off an assist by senior Reagan Allen.

In the second half, WSC netted three goals in less than 10 minutes starting with senior Alaina Sorensen finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Allen scored in the 53rd as sophomore Rachel Davis used an assist from senior Alyssa Ferin in the 62nd minute.

Allen led WSC with four shot attempts with two on goal and one in the back of the net.

Pemberton (who scored) and Mancuso (who put one shot on goal) both added three shot attempts.

Hofstetter was in goal for 27:48 allowing two goals while Miller recorded a clean sheet throughout the match in 62:12 recording six saves.

Wayne State College edged Jamestown in shot attempts, 18-10 as both teams put eight shots on goal.

The Wayne State College women's soccer team will next visit St. Cloud State on Oct. 31 at 1 p.m., play at Minnesota State-Mankato on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. and close their regular season on Nov. 6 at Augustana.
