Wayne State had five student-athletes named to the 2023 Academic All-District Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country teams selected by College Sports Communicators.
Maya Couch, Megan Hansen, Kelsey Larsen, Alison Stineman and Lindsey Stuckey received the honor that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Student athletes must maintain a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and compete in at least 50 percent of competition.
Couch, a sophomore sprinter, produced a 3.80 GPA majoring in business. She ran a leg on the eighth place 400-meter relay team at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and was 17th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.54 seconds.
Hansen, a junior hurdler/sprinter, maintains a 3.72 GPA majoring in secondary education. She ran the first leg on the 400-meter relay team that finished eighth at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and was 10th in the 100-meter-high hurdles in 14.94 seconds.
Larsen is a middle-distance runner and carries a 3.98 grade-point average majoring in biology and pre-physical therapy. She earned All-NSIC honors during the indoor season placing second in the 1,000-meter run at the NSIC Championships (2:57.52) and set a new indoor school record in the event this season at 2:56.80. During the outdoor season Larsen ran a leg on the new school record 3,200-meter relay team at the Drake Relays with a time of 9:25.50.
Stineman, a junior distance runner, had a 3.97 grade-point average this season majoring in biology and pre-dentistry. She was named Most Valuable Runner during the cross country season last fall after finishing as the top WSC runner in four of seven meets. Stineman ran a season-best time of 2:22.55 in the 800-meter run at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and was 15th in the 600-meter run at the NSIC Indoor Championships.
Stuckey is a senior distance runner and maintained a 4.0 GPA majoring in biology and pre-dental. She earned a seventh-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the NSIC Outdoor Championships this season at 38:58.97 and was the top WSC runner at two cross country meets in the fall. Stuckey also received the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic With Distinction Award.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America ballot, with All-America honors announced June 28.
