Two members of the Wayne State College outdoor track & field program earned athlete of the week honors.
According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, senior thrower Reilly Young was named NSIC Women's Field Athlete of the Week while freshman sprinter Emmanuel Badejo has been named NSIC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Young posted a NCAA provisional marks in back-to-back meets in the discus. She took first last Wednesday at Maverick Open #1 with a throw of 171' and threw an identical mark of 171' Saturday at the USD Tune-up meet to finish second. Young has the top discus mark in the NSIC and is third in NCAA Division II.
Badejo set two new school records in the Maverick Open #1 where he broke his own 400-meter dash record placing first with a time of 46.39 seconds which now ranks 11th in NCAA Division II. He also anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay team that set a new school record for the second time this season at 40.32 seconds.
The Wayne State College women's and men's outdoor track & field team will be in Duluth, Minnesota for the Northern Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 8 - 10.
