As two women's discus throwers from Wayne State College are set to compete in outdoor national championship action, senior Reilly Young was earned a top conference accolade.
According to a release from Wayne State Athletics, Young was tabbed as the NSIC Field Athlete of the Year.
A graduate of Central Valley HS (Scotia), Young was the NSIC champion in the discus during the NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Duluth, Minnesota (May 8 - 10) with a mark of 164' 11". She also earned All-NSIC honors with a third-place finish in the hammer throw at 162' 8". Young scored 16 of Wayne State's 38 points at the NSIC Championships.
Young is an NCAA national qualifier in the discus and will compete at the Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colorado on Friday, May 23 at 3 p.m. Central Time. She ranks third in NCAA Division II with a top mark of 171' 0" at the Maverick Open in Mankato, Minnesota April 30. It's the second time that Young is a national qualifier in the discus (2023 sophomore season).
Sophomore Torrance Tso from Norfolk (Norfolk HS), is an NCAA national qualifier for the first time in the discus. She earned All-NSIC honors at the conference championships with a throw of 154' 2" (third). Tso's season-best mark of 158' 10" is ranked 17th in NCAA Division II entering nationals.
