The Wayne County Commissioners approved a proposal from Allo to service the county's phones, among other items during their Tuesday morning meeting.

At the last meeting, a representative from Allo presented the board with services, prices and benefits of switching to the phone service. After taking the last few weeks to deliberate, the board approved the proposal.

Luke Virgil, from Wayne America, Inc., gave the organization's quarterly report, highlighting the rebranding from Wayne Area Economic Development and the new website features.

The Wayne County Historical Society Board attended the meeting with Kaki Ley speaking to the board as a representative. The group asked for an increase in funds from the county to make up for the changes in inflation.

Forty years ago, the county pledged to give the historical society $5,000 every year, to be split with the Winside Historical Society.

According to Ley and others, the $2,500 a year does not cover all the repairs to the Wayne County Museum or leave room to host events or advertise. The Historical Society Board asserted an increase to at least $25,000 a year would allow for renovations, events and more.

The Commissioners tabled the decision, saying they would need to wait until July budget sessions to make a decision.

Highway Superintendent Kyle Huff opened bids for the Wilke Bridge. A total of seven bids were heard. The Commissioners will deliberate and award a bid at their next meeting.

Bids were also opened for the sale of a fire-damaged Case IH MAX 240 tractor. Two bids were received and the board awarded the bid to Miller Repair from Maxwell with their bid of $10,900.

Huff ended with updates on bridge repair and the purchase of a truck-tractor through Sourcewell for District 2.

The Commissioners then approved lawn service for the courthouse from White Dog Lawn Services for mowing and Y&Y Lawn Services for the fertilizing.

The courthouse window replacement project, which has been in talks for months, has finally started this month.

The meeting ended with an introduction from Glen Meyer, a candidate for Legislative District #17. Meyer asserted the importance of visiting area public representatives and applauded the Wayne County Commissioners on their work.

The board's next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 9 a.m.
