Allen welding team wins competition
Several students from the vocational agriculture class at Allen High School took part in the District 3 Vocational Agriculture Contest held last Wednesday in Norfolk. Allen was among the 17 area schools participating in the event at Northeast Technical Community College. Of the 23 teams participating in the welding portion of the contest, Allen's Jay Jones and Chad Hingst took first place qualifying them for the state contest to be held April 15 in Lincoln. Jones also recieved first place in arc welding, and Hingst placed second in oxy-acetylene welding.
Allen's Shawn Mahler recieved a blue ribbon and Mike Rhodman recieved a red ribbion. In the ag mechanics contest, Alllen's team won fourth place and is among the top four teams to advance to state competition.
Members of the team are Stuart Lubberstadt and Mike Gensler, who each won a red ribbion, Brad Stewart and Robby Ridgeway, who recieved a white ribbion. Vocational agriculture instructor at Allen High School is Tom Wilmes.
