Delinquent real estate taxes, bid for bridge make up Commissioner agenda

Several county departments updated the Wayne County Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday.

County Treasurer Lisa Lindsay outlined the recent sale of delinquent real estate taxes which took place on March 4. During the sale, which lasted around 20 minutes, 16 out of 19 parcels sold to seven investors. In the following days, one more parcel was paid.

The remaining two parcels total $331.42.

Nic Kemnitz gave emergency management updates and highlighted Severe Weather Awareness Week (March 25 - 29).

On Wednesday, March 27 at 10 a.m., Wayne, Carroll and Winside will participate in the National Weather Service's Tornado Drill by activating the outdoor warning sirens in each community.

Kemnitz said during the drill, all area schools, businesses and agencies should test their emergency communications and sheltering plans.

Each day of Severe Weather Awareness Week has a theme: Monday- Lightning safety; Tuesday- Tornado safety; Wednesday- Preparedness; Thursday- Hail and Wind safety; Friday- Flood safety. For more information on each day, visit www.weather.gov/oax/severe.

Kemnitz plans to attend multiple conferences in the coming weeks including the U.S. Fire Administration Incident Management Team course in North Platte and the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management Conference in Kearney.

Wayne will hold a Lower Elkhorn Natural Resource District Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Meeting on Thursday, April 11. The public is invited to the open portion of the meeting, but the time has yet to be determined.

Highway Superintendent Kyle Huff presented the board with bid and project updates. The Commissioners awarded a bid for the Wilke bridge, located two miles south and about two miles west of Wayne, to Graves Construction out of Spencer, Iowa totalling $920,554.97. The project is scheduled to start April 15 and last 120 week days.

Another bid awarded to B's Enterprises from Norfolk totalled $34,277.77 for the 'Short Bridge' (Villwok). Work is slated to start June 1.

The bridge deck for the Wavy bridge was poured on March 6.

Work on the Nau Concrete Box Culvert will complete soon. Workers poured the floor on March 15.

On Wednesday, March 27, Morrow's House Movers, Inc. of Jackson will move a house west of Carroll into Stanton County.

The next meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 9 a.m.
