Officials with the United States Post Office were in Wayne last week to recognize Terry Karel for 55 years of service to the Post Office.

Eric Henry, Central Area Vice President, and Lisse Garrett, District Manager for Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, came to Wayne to congratulate Karel on this accomplishment.

“We’re all so proud of Terry and his many accomplishments throughout the years. Terry has seen quite a few changes and he has continued to grow and do well. From manually sorting letters and packages to a now modernized Postal Service, capable of providing world-class service reliability at affordable prices, with universal six-day mail delivery and expanded seven-day package delivery reach. We are woven into the fabric of every community. We touch the lives of people each day.

"They depend on us, and we proudly deliver for America. Today is a very special day as we celebrate Terry and his 55 years of service.”

Karel said that when he started delivering mail, a stamp cost five cents and there were penny post cards. The Wayne native began his postal career after serving two years in the military during the Vietnam era.

Co-workers at the Post Office congratulated Karel on this milestone and celebrated with cake before Karel began his route, just as he has for more than half a century.
