Schlickbernd earns Eagle Scout of the Year

Jack Schlickbernd, 17, of Wayne has been selected by the Nebraska American Legion as the 2023 Eagle Scout-of-the-Year and will receive a $500 scholarship. 

Winside American Legion Post 252 sponsored him for the award and Schlickbernd noted that he "is  very thankful for their help especially from Bud and Beverly Neel and others that encouraged me to apply."  

Schlickbernd will be a senior at Wakefield High School this upcoming school year and is a member of Troop 174, where he achieved his Eagle Scout in August of 2022. 

He is a member of Journey Christian Church, and he volunteers at his church and at various community events in both Wayne and Wakefield. Schlickbernd has held many Scout positions and is known to be a standout Scout. He participates in nine different activities in his school and attended Cornhusker Boy’s State in June of 2023 as representative of Wakefield Post 81 and Wakefield Community Schools.

 Schlickbernd received his reward on June 24 at the American Legion’s Department of Nebraska Annual Convention.

Selected for second place for Eagle Scout of the year and a $300.00 scholarship was Adelaide Horst of Gretna.
