WSC commencement to be held next week

The Wayne State College graduating class of fall 2021 will have their commencement ceremony Friday Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in Rice Auditorium. 

President Marysz Rames will welcome everyone to the ceremony first and then the “The Star Spangled Banner” will be sung by graduating music student Ms. Abigail Robinson and Dr. Sarah Farr, Associate Professor of Music.

The invocation will be done by Tanner Johnston from Wausa, Nebraska. He is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education K-12.

Then, Mr. Carter “Cap” Peterson, a Trustee of the Nebraska State College System, will give his greetings from the board. Following him, President Rames and Mr. Kevin Armstrong, CEO of the Wayne State Foundation, will present the Alumni Achievement Award to Dr. Glenda Gallisath. The award is presented to a graduate who has attained outstanding achievement in his or her career and/or through community service and has provided support to WSC.

Student speakers Sabrina Sack and Emma Todd will also give their commencement address. Sack is from Waverly, Nebraska and is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in English as a Second Language and Reading/Writing. Todd is from Neola, Iowa and is graduating with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Mr. Steven Elliott, Vice President for Academic Affairs, will do the presentation of candidates for degree while President Rames confers the degrees. Dr. Anne Power, Dean of the School of Business and Technology, will present the Baccalaureate candidates with Vice President Elliott presenting the Graduate candidates after.

President Rames will finish out the ceremony with her closing remarks.
