Blood drive held in Wayne

Posted

The recent Wayne Community Blood Drive, held on Aug. 28, saw 32 donors stepped up to contribute, including one first time donor - resulting in 35 units of life-saving blood collected. The donations made at this event have the potential to save up to 105 lives.

There is no substitute for human blood, and each time someone donates, they are making a real difference. With over 3,000 units of blood needed weekly to support hospital patients, the demand is constant, yet only a small fraction of eligible donors give.

While 90% of people will require blood at some point in their lives, less than 3% donate. In the U.S., all transfused blood must come from unpaid volunteer donors, making every donation crucial.

Supporting the blood supply goes beyond donating blood. Volunteers, event coordinators, and sponsors all play essential roles in ensuring that the community blood supply remains strong. Whether you’re interested in sponsoring a drive, volunteering, or learning about fundraising or scholarship opportunities, you can make a significant impact. The following donors hit significant milestones with their recent donations:.

Nathan McKenna, one gallon;                  Brandon Hall, two gallons;  Lou Reed, five gallons;  Peggy Hank, six gallons; and Brian Frevert, eight gallons.

"A special thanks to the City of Wayne for coordinating this drive and to the Wayne Fire & Rescue Team for providing the venue," said Kim Jensen Dietrich LifeServe Blood Center Territory Representative.

The next Wayne Community Blood Drive will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Wayne Fire Hall.
