‘Cats start slow, but make fast work of Crookston

Top-ranked Wayne State got off to a slow start Saturday, but once they got going they made quick work of Minnesota Crookston on Saturday at Rice Auditorium, winning in straight sets, 25-20, -10, -12.

The first set was close until late. Crookston forged a 17-17 tie before an error and a kill by Channattee Robles helped the Wildcats win the first set.

The Wildcats hit .556 in the second set on 15 kills in 27 attacks with no errors, led by Kelsie Cada’s six kills.
Coach Scott Kneifl emptied the bench in the final set as the Wildcats continued to play well, hitting .412 to finish off the set.

Maggie Brahmer had 16 kills, including an 8-for-8 effort in the first set, and hit .714 for the contest.

Cada Added 14 kills on 23 attacks to hit .609. Rachel Walker had 40 assists.

Defensively, Taya Beller and Taylor Bunjer both had three blocks. Jordan McCormick had 16 digs and also recorded three ace serves.

The Wildcats are 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the NSIC, they go to Augustana for a 6 p.m. matchup on Thursday.
