Celebrate Earth Day in Wayne

Posted

Earth Day falls on April 22 each year, but the Wayne Green Team encourages residents to live every day as if it is Earth Day.

The group invites everyone to attend these free community events to celebrate our planet and learn how to reduce waste.

Attend the Zero Waste Chamber Coffee on Friday, April 19, at 10 am.

Bring your own mug to the Wayne Public Library as you hear the latest on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle in Wayne with our hands-on demos.  This year’s Zero Hero award recipient will also be announced.

Watch the free Earth Day movie, The True Cost, at the Majestic Theatre, Sunday, April 21, at 7 p.m.

Come to the Majestic for a free screening of the groundbreaking documentary, The True Cost, rated PG-13.

This film is a story about clothing. It’s about the clothes we wear, the people who make them, and the impact it is having on our world. The price of clothing has been decreasing for decades, while the human and environmental costs have grown dramatically.

The True Cost is a moving documentary that pulls back the curtain on an unseen part of our world and asks us each to consider, who pays the price for our clothing?

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for zero waste living tips and a mini clothing swap. The 92-minute film begins at 7 p.m.

Bring your own popcorn container and cup to help make this a zero waste event!

This free event is hosted by the City of Wayne Green Team, the WSC Green Team, and the A. Jewell Schock Natural History Museum, with funding from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy.

Participate in a clothing swap on Sunday, April 21, 6:30 p.m.

In conjunction with the free Earth Day movie at the Majestic Theatre this year, the Wayne Green Team & WSC Green Team are hosting a mini clothing swap. Feel free to bring up to two sweatshirts or t-shirts to swap with others. Leftover items will be donated.
