Chicken Show theme announced

Wayne Area Economic Development (WAED) and the Chicken Show Committee have announced the theme for the 43rd annual Chicken Show, which will be held Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8, and Sunday July 9.

The theme selected by the Chicken Show Committee, is “Eggscaliber: Are you worthy to pluck the sword from the egg?” and the committee invites vassals from across the kingdom to join them for a fowl festival.

For 2023, the Chicken Show Committee has feathered elements of Arthurian legend, medieval times, and the renaissance era into their annual celebration of arts, community, and the chicken. While an oath of fealty to a liege lord or a joust may be in order, Chicken Show revelers will still be able to vie for peasant favorites like the ‘best chicken legs’ competition, the hard-boiled egg eating contest, and the National Cluck-Off.

To ensure the success of the Chicken Show, volunteers are always needed. The Chicken Show Committee meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. If anyone is interested in planning the event, organizing additional activities, or has questions about the event, please contact Brayden Sharp at bsharp@wayneworks.org or 402-375-2240.

Founded by the Wayne Regional Arts Council in 1981, the Wayne Chicken Show is held annually on the second weekend of July in Wayne.
