Information on upcoming road and bridge projects, as well as an update on recent upgrades in the courtroom were on the agenda when the Wayne County Board of Commissioners met for the first meeting of 2023.
Road Superintendent Mark Casey presented information to the commissioners on the Fastwyre (formerly American Broadband) project planned for the Carroll area. He showed them a map of the project area but noted that the county does not have a permit application at this time.
He and the commissioners also discussed several culvert and bridge projects set to be completed in the future. Funding options for these projects were discussed and it was noted that several would not be able to be completed in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
Casey also talked about documents received by the county in regard to Summit Carbon Solutions and road agreements for the installation of carbon pipelines through the county. He said he is waiting for additional language to be added to the documents and the need for more specific information to be included.
The final item on his report to the commissioners was the fact that he is beginning work on the county's one and six-year road plan.
Deb Dannelly, Clerk of the District Court, gave an update on recently installed equipment in the courtroom. She told the commissioners that nearly all the work was completed and said having the new TVs and equipment was a "plus for the courtroom and court proceedings." She discussed some lighting to be installed in the courtroom and possible locations for the lights.
In regard to American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to be used in the county, commissioners were told there have been no new applications for the funds.
The county is waiting for estimates to come in on the cost of replacing the windows in the courthouse and discussion was held on other uses for the funds should the windows not be eligible for ARPA funding.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Wayne County Courthouse. In addition, the swearing in ceremony for all elected county officials was scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 5.
