Building Blocks Early Childhood & Family Development Center held its groundbreaking ceremony on July 16 at the facility’s construction site located at 308 Lonsdale Street in Laurel.

The ceremony was attended by local dignitaries, community leaders and representatives from Building Blocks Early Childhood & Family Development Center, who came together to celebrate this significant milestone.

With much input from experts in the Early Childcare Education field and architects with broad experience and understanding in designing Centers of this type, the new facility’s state-of-the-art design elements and cutting-edge features will create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children.

Modern classrooms with age-specific furnishings and fixtures, indoor/outdoor play areas and secured pick up/drop off areas are key features of the Center.

"We are thrilled to break ground on this much-needed facility," said Megan Pippitt, President of the Building Blocks non-profit board.  “The new Center will provide essential services to young children and their families, offering them the support they need to thrive and succeed."

Pippitt went on to share that the Center’s comprehensive Early Childhood Education Programs will focus on quality preschool and kindergarten readiness.

“These programs will entail fostering cognitive, social and emotional development in young children,” she said.

"We believe that every child deserves the best start in life, and this Center will be a beacon of hope and opportunity for families in our community," conveyed Jeremy Christiansen, Building Blocks Board Member and LCC Schools Superintendent. "Our goal is to ensure that all children have access to the resources they need to reach their full potential,” added Christensen.

Plans are underway to provide parents and caregivers with support services such as parenting classes, health and nutrition education, family counseling, educational training, etc. through the Center.

The Center will also host engagement initiatives and events, aiming to strengthen community ties and promoting a supportive environment for all childcare providers in the area.

In an effort to involve more community members and to build support for the Center, the Building Blocks Early Childhood & Family Development Center Board has planned a special upcoming event.

Community members are invited to attend ‘Sip, Snack & Be Educated’ on Wednesday, July 31 at 6 p.m. at the Laurel Community Center, located at 302 E Second Street in Laurel.

This event, hosted by the Building Blocks Board, will provide community members with both information and insight into the Building Blocks Early Childhood & Family Development Center Project.

A guest panel, consisting of statewide partner experts, will share their vision of what a quality Early Childhood & Family Development Center looks like; how the Laurel community, its children, families, and businesses will benefit from having a Center of this type; and lastly, why community involvement and support is vital for the new Center’s long-term success.
