The Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) welcomed Humanities Nebraska speaker Sue McClain of Beatrice back to Wayne on Dec. 9.

The county-wide organization hosted the event at the Wayne County Museum.

Also known as "Yesterday's Lady," Sue is one of the most requested speakers available through the statewide organization.

Sue presented "A Victorian Christmas" to the full house hosted at the Wayne County Museum.

WCHS President Rachel Kunz said, "despite the cold and blustery weather, we were delighted that the Humanities Nebraska event drew a full house of guests to enjoy Sue's program. Sue is such a knowledgeable presenter, and she never disappoints. In fact, the historical society hopes to host her again next year."

Guests traveled from as near as Wayne and as far as Lincoln and St. Paul as they packed the historic home.

The current museum was donated to the Wayne County Historical Society by the Ley family in 1976. It was built in the 1890's and reflects a Victorian Colonial style. The home contains four original marble cola-burning fireplaces, a built-in bookcase with curved glass doors and several stained-glass and beveled-glass windows.

WCHS board member Sandra Bartling said, "with the success of this Christmas event, the society hopes to continue to host special events as an opportunity to learn about our county and state's history."
