HARTINGTON — Moving the start time from an afternoon meet to a morning one certainly helped out the runners competing in Thursday’s Hartington-Newcastle Invitational.

WIth temperatures that day forecast at 100 degrees, school officials opted to move the start time to a morning session, and the runners were able to get in their races before the heat took over the day.

LCC’s girls finished fourth overall and had two runners in the top 15. Faith Garvin finished ninth in a time of 24:58.83, while Addy Hoeppner was 15th at 26:04.97.

Abbie Brummels just missed a top 15 finish, placing 16th, while Kate Tasler was 23rd and Yasmine Miranda placed 41st for the Lady Bears.

Winside had three runners compete and two came home to finish. Megan Gnirk was 39th and Miley Gnirk placed 41st. Stephanie Naeve did not finish the race, due to heat exhaustion.

In boys action, Tyler Olson paced the LCC boys with a fifth-place time of 20:06.38, claiming the lone medal on the day for the bears.
