Legacy Fund awards grant for fishing dock

The Wayne Izaak Walton League recently announced the completion of their new fishing handicap dock project.

In conjunction with the announcement, a check presentation was held with several Ike's members and board members from the Wayne Area Legacy Fund (WALF) gathering at the dock.

Over the past spring and summer, the Ike’s board started plans to upgrade their fishing access for those with handicap needs. Multiple options were looked at from floating docks, concrete pads, to reworking the original dock. The Ike’s board decided to move forward with a new concrete pad with a railing as well as reworking the foundation on the original dock to give multiple opportunities.

“While the new dock and foundation on the original dock are complete, there is some additional work we will be doing to the original dock with the railing and painting it to rejuvenate it as well,” said Erin Eilers, Ike’s president.

To help with funding the new dock, the Ike’s board reached out to the Wayne Area Legacy Fund and was awarded $2,500 to put toward the project.

Eilers said, “Multiple businesses helped with getting this project to completion, and the Wayne Ike’s board would like to thank the following: the Wayne Area Legacy Fund; Gerhold Concrete; Tim, Braden, and Brice Lurz with Lurz Concrete; John’s Welding for making the railing; and Fyre-Tec for powder coat painting the railing.”

The Wayne Ike’s has other future projects planned to create new opportunities for members which will take time and additional resources to complete.
