Northeast offers new online course for those interested in substitute teaching

Posted

Northeast Community College is offering a new one-credit hour course that will allow individuals the opportunity to earn a permit to serve as substitute teachers in Nebraska.

The course, Human Relations in a Pluralistic Society, meets the Nebraska Department of Education’s human relations requirement.

The local substitute teaching permit allows an individual to teach up to 90 days per school, per academic year. Other requirements are 60 semester credits of college coursework, a letter from the superintendent of the school district where the local substitute permit will be assigned, and an application.

Once issued, a Local Substitute Permit expires Aug. 31, in the third year following the year of issuance.

Additional information on the Local Substitute Permit may be found by visiting the Nebraska Department of Education at https://www.education.ne.gov/tcert/substitute-teacher/local-substitute-permit/.

Northeast will offer EDUC 1100 Human Relations in a Pluralistic Society during Intersession Monday, Dec. 18 - Friday Jan. 5.

The course will also be offered Monday, Jan. 8 - Sunday, Feb. 4, and once more Monday, March 11 - Sunday April 7. The course is fully online with weekly deadlines that allow students to complete coursework at times during the week that work for them.

Cost of each class is $128 (tuition and fees). No textbook is required.
