A public hearing was held in regard to the acquisition of a parcel of land located at 1100 E. 10th Street.

City Administrator Wes Blecke told the council that the property is the First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) Service Center and John Vakoc, who owns the property, is looking to sell it.

Blecke also said the city has had conversations with Wayne Community Schools in regard to the Community Activity Center. Discussion involved the needs of both the city and the school.

"This property (the FNBO site) has been looked at and could be a place for the Community Activity Center to go, if the city sells the current Center to the school," Blecke said.

Tuesday's meeting only included a public hearing on the acquisition of the property and no action item was on the agenda.

The membership of two new members to the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department was approved.

Max Keezel and Ayden Barrone have been accepted into membership on the department, following action both by the fire department and the city council. Barrone has experience as an EMT, which Fire Chief Phil Monahan said is needed on the department at the present time.

Action was take on a Letter of Support for the Nebraska Solar for All Grant.

While the letter does not commit the city to any action, it will allow for additional support as the city continues to discuss the possibility of constructing a 2 mega watt solar farm.

Council members approved a Letter of Commitment for the Nebraska Clean Cities Coalition.

This organization will replace the Nebraska Clean Energy Alliance and will be operated out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Transportation Center.

Second reading approval was given to an ordinance that will amend the city code in regard to regulations in an A-1 Agricultural District.

City Planner Joel Hansen explained changes that have been made to the ordinance since its first reading. This includes clarification of the number of animals allowed on property within the district.

The Wayne City Council will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
