Sievers to serve as commissioner chairman in the new year

In a short meeting, the Wayne County Commissioners named chairman and vice-chairman for the board during the upcoming year.

For the Board of Commissioners, Terry Sievers will serve as chairman and Jim Rabe will serve as vice-chairman. As for the Board of Equalization, Dean Burbach serves as the chairman with Jim Rabe as the vice-chairman.

Previously, Burbach operated as the commissioner chairman, while Rabe acted as the equalization chairman.

They also made appointments to several positions and boards. These included:

County Coroner's Physician: Dr. Mark McCorkindale;

Flood Plain Administrator: Kyle Huff, county highway superintendent;

Northeast NE Area Agency on Aging, Northeast NE Economic Development District, Northeast NE Joint Housing Agency, Wayne Area Economic Development Board, Wayne Community Housing Authority and Wayne County Safety Committee: Dean Burbach;

Northeast NE Juvenile Services, Inc., Wayne Area Business & Industry Committee and Wayne Community Housing Authority: Terry Sievers;

Northeast NE Public Health Department, Northeast NE RC&D, NorthStar Services and Region IV Mental Health Services: Jim Rabe;

Wayne County Security Committee: Sievers, Pat Brentlinger (maintenance) and Sheriff Jason Dwinell.

Following those appointments, Kyle Huff, who has recently started his duties as Wayne County Highway Superintendent, gave road and bridge updates.

Ending the meeting, Commissioners approved a Memo of Understanding with the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs for an additional two-year contract with VetraSpec.

According to its website,  "VetraSpec is a web-based, Veteran claims management solution built for veteran’s service officers. [It] allows veteran service officers to access their data from any computer with internet access. All data is stored in one, centralized, secure location."

The next meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners will take place on Jan. 16 at 9 a.m.
