SNB Blue Devil Branch Tellers take field trip

State Nebraska Bank & Trust took 18 tellers from its Blue Devil Branch at Wayne Elementary School on a field trip to Lincoln on May 22.

The field trip included a tour of the State Capitol, a counterfeiting session taught by the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance, and a presentation of certificates for the tellers’ hard work this year.

Fifth grader Sophia Peterson also received this year’s Stellar Teller award, representing the one teller who provided the best customer service, showed up on time to work, promoted the Blue Devil Branch to others, and always encouraged students to save.

The State Nebraska Bank & Trust Blue Devil Branch is an in-school savings program for students at Wayne Elementary School.  With parental permission, students in kindergarten through 6th grade can open a savings account at school.  This year, the branch had great success: students made over 1,700 deposits and saved $6,500, and 46% of the student population had a savings account at school. Students also earned over 500 fun incentives, like bookmarks, coupons, and school supplies provided by SNB.

This unique in-school savings program is part of a statewide effort led by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education to teach financial literacy to youth.  In three years of operation, nearly 300 students have saved over $19,000 through the State Nebraska Bank & Trust Blue Devil Branch.
