Speech team competes in Hartington

Members of the Wayne Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity Speech team took part in the Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invitational on Jan. 27,

The following members of the JV Speech Team placed at the event:

Ryder Olberding, fifth in Humorous Prose; Adrienne Anderson, fourth in Persuasive; Sharon Vasquez, fourth in Serious Prose; Rachel Holland, third in Informative; the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Aleigha Hale, Ryder Olberding, Andrea Olvares-Casillas, Rachel Holland, and Riley Olson, third; Isaiah Yarde; third in Poetry; Hunter Ruwe, second in Extemporaneous Speaking; and the Duet Acting team of Wanso Barner and gabriel Armstrong, second.

As a team, the JV squad finished a close second behind champion Battle Creek.

The following members of the Varsity Speech Team placed at Hartington on Saturday:

The Duet of Grace Junck and Kennasyn Blecke, 10th overall; Jordyn Clinchard, 10th overall in Informative; Abi Hawthorne, ninth overall in Informative and Humorous; Alondra Vega, seventh overall in Serious Prose; Sienna Klinetobe, seventh overall in both Serious Prose and Poetry; Josie Ley, sixth in Extemp.; Alondra Vega, fourth in Poetry; Colby Raulston, fourth in Program Oral Interpretation; Maddie Franta, third in Entertainment; Alec Schaffer, third in Humorous; the Duet of Maddie Franta and Colby Raulston, third; Sophia Spieker, second in Entertainment; and Jordyn Clinchard, runner-up in Extemporaneous Speaking. 

Wayne brought home two event championships:  Parker Kesting in Extemporaneous Speaking and Ava Elliot in Persuasive.

Competing with a depleted roster owing to other school activities, as a team Wayne finished a close second behind champion Hartington-Newcastle.

"Next up for the Blue Devils is the sixth annual Wayne High/Wayne State College Classic, hosted by Wayne High on the WSC Campus this coming Saturday.  Events start at 8 a.m.  Admission is free and open to the public," said Head Coach Dwaine Spieker.
