Three named to all-region volleyball honors

Three Wayne State College volleyball players were named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Volleyball Team.

Junior middle hitters Taya Beller and Maggie Brahmer were both voted First Team All-Central Region for a second straight season, while senior outside hitter Kelsie Cada was a repeat Second Team All-Central Region honoree. The award is voted on by sports information directors in the Central Region.

Beller, a 6-foot-2 junior middle hitter), led the NSIC in blocks this season (1.11/set), was third in hitting percentage (.393) and points per set (4.39) and fifth in kills per set (3.53). She was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season and became the 20th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. Beller matched a career-high with 20 kills to go with a season-high eight blocks in a 3-2 win over Northern State. She earned All-NSIC First Team honors for a third straight season this year and is now a two-time All-Central Region First Team selection.

Brahmer, a 6-foot junior middle hitter, earned D2CCA All-Central Region First Team honors for a second straight season after averaging 3.47 kills and 1.06 blocks per set this season. She leads the NSIC and ranks ninth nationally with a .414 hitting percentage, is fourth in the NSIC in blocks per set, fifth in points per set (4.11) and seventh in kills per set (3.47). Brahmer is a three-time NSIC Player of the Week selection this season and was named AVCA/GameChanger National Player of the Week on Oct. 3. She also joined the 1,000-kill club at WSC this season and currently ranks 20th in career kills with 1,029. Earlier this season Brahmer was named All-NSIC First Team for a third straight year.

Cada, a 6-foot senior outside hitter, was named All-Central Region Second Team for a second straight season after averaging 3.42 kills and 2.60 digs per set for the Wildcats. She ranks sixth in the NSIC in points per set (4.06) and service aces per set (0.42) and eighth in kills per set (3.42). Cada has eight double-doubles this season and became the eighth player in school history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 digs this season, ranking 12th all-time with 1,332 kills. She is a three-time All-NSIC selection, earning First Team honors the last two seasons.
