At approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning (Thursday) the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene of a garage fire on West Second Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered a garage fully engulfed in flames.

More than 20 firefighters remained on scene until 5:30 a.m. to ensure there were no hot spots, due to the extremely dry conditions.

The garage contained several pieces of garden equipment, which were destroyed in the blaze. There was not a vehicle in the building at the time of the fire.

No one was injured in the incident and the cause of the blaze is undetermined at this time.

Wayne Fire Chief Phil Monahan noted that at this time, no burn permits are being issued and encourage all residents to be cautious when using fire pits or with any other flammable material.
