Wayne Community Schools students showcased their musical talent and dedication at the recent Pierce Honor Band event held on Saturday, April 6. This prestigious event brought together talented young musicians from across the region, providing them with an opportunity to learn and perform alongside their peers.

Students from Wayne Community Schools underwent auditions and were selected to participate in two distinguished bands: the sixth and seventh grade band and the eighth and ninth grade band. This recognition speaks volumes about their musical abilities and dedication to their craft.

Under the guidance of experienced clinicians Gwen Wenisch from Yankton and Stacy Bean from Kearney, the students honed their skills and worked on music on the day of the event.

One of the highlights of the event was the collaboration among students from various schools in the area.

They came together to rehearse and perform the music, showcasing their teamwork and passion for music.

"I am incredibly proud of the students that auditioned and those that were selected to represent Wayne at the Pierce Honor Band," said Alex Wieland, band teacher at Wayne Community Schools. "Events like the Pierce Honor Band not only provide a platform for our students to showcase their talents but also allow them to learn from experienced clinicians and collaborate with fellow musicians from different schools. Having an opportunity for students to work together, instead of against each other, is always a great experience.”

"The participation of Wayne Community Schools students in the Pierce Honor Band reflects the school's commitment to nurturing and promoting musical excellence among its students. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to their peers and a testament to the vibrant music education program at Wayne Community Schools," Wieland added.
