Across the nation, communities have faced plagues of snow in the past week, leaving people stuck at home. With roads piled high with multiple feet of snow and sub-zero temperatures, businesses have lacked supplies and had to close for employee and customer safety.

Wayne's Pac 'N' Save, Quality Foods and Casey's all have worked hard to continue their services to the community, but with the main roads blocked, re-stock trucks have been unable to enter the area.

At Casey's, trucks traveling from Iowa usually restock gas at the location about three to four times a week, according to Manager Michele Forbes.

However, due to the storm, Wayne Casey's has not had unleaded, leaded or diesel fuel since Sunday, Jan. 14, Forbes said.

"They have not given us a date or time when we will be refilled," Forbes explained. "All Casey's in the area are having the same problems. In Norfolk, Casey's stores are completely out of gas in the whole city."

The gas station has seen fewer customers due to the fuel shortage. As for in-store products, milk and other supply trucks have been able to restock in recent days.

"It's been hard here without gas," Forbes added. "We hope to be up and running soon for the community."

At Pac 'N' Save, a truck shipment came in on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the first in a while. Milk, bread and eggs flew off the shelves in the first few days of the storm, leaving empty shelves for a few days.

For safety purposes, the store closed its doors early on the day of Jan. 13 where wind chills reached negative 45 degrees.

According to staff, Pac 'N' Save employees put in extra work Wednesday to refill shelves for customers.

Quality Food Center in Wayne faced the same shipment issues due to the poor road conditions.

"Our last shipment we got in was about a week ago," said owner Pat Riesberg. "Today [Wednesday], a huge shipment came in. We'll probably be restocking until well into the night. The store is super busy but we feel incredibly lucky we could get products in for customers."

Again, milk, eggs, bread and produce disappeared quickly from the shelves at Quality Foods.

As road conditions in and out of Wayne improve, goods and services will continue to return.

Hopefully weather cooperates in the coming weeks, Riesberg added. "I hear we're supposed to get more snow!"
