Blue Devil Cross Country returns with runner-up team results

Following a 10-day break in racing, the Wayne High girls and boys cross country program was back in action.

From the Crofton Lakeview Golf Course, the Blue Devils participated in the Crofton Invite on Thursday.

The Wayne High girls finished runner-up with 56 points while the Blue Devil boys also took second with 31 points.

The host Crofton won the girls division with 49 points, Wayne followed in second (56), South Sioux City took third (79), Hartington-Newcastle placed fourth (88) and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge rounded out the top five teams with 89 points.

Wayne High was led by junior Lilyan Hurner in seventh place with a time of 22:55.8 followed closely by sophomore Essynce Owens-Webb in eighth (23:07.3).

Other Blue Devil results came from senior Yama Kantai (16th – 23:58) and Olivia Hanson (17th – 24:06.9) as well as junior Kennasyn Blecke (22nd – 24:48). Senior Norah Armstrong won the JV division finishing 29th overall (25:24) and freshman Hannah Brogren also placed 39th (27:03.1).

Junior Kate Tasler paced LCC with a sixth place medal in 22:52.6.

The top individual runner was junior Callie Fischer from Lutheran High Northeast in a time of 21:34.4 among the 60 runners on the 5,000-meter course.

The Wayne Junior High girls were led by a runner-up finish by eighth grader Tayla Hurner (7:27.46) as fellow eighth grader Elizabeth Hix took 11th (8:17.31). There were 59 runners on the 3,000-meter course.

Seventh grade leaders were Hadley Dunklau in fourth (7:47.46), Sarah Kuchta (16th – 8:38.35), Rose Kaup (22nd – 8:55.26), Alyssa Bargholz (27th – 9:05.04), Chloe Kai (34th – 9:34.37), Lucy Ocampo (35th – 9:36.34), Pashynce Owens-Webb (37th – 9:45.54) and Molly Allemann (47th – 11:32.81).

Norfolk Catholic edged Wayne High (29-31) to win the boys division, Bloomfield/Wausa took third (49), Crofton placed fourth (76) and South Sioux City rounded out the top five teams with 79 points.

Wayne High was led by senior Gavin Redden in runner-up during a time of 18:20.3 and junior Drew Miller added a fourth place finish (18:26)

Other top results came from sophomore Landen Claussen (12th – 19:20), senior Kasen York (13th – 19:20) and sophomore Camden Hall (18th – 19:40).

More Wayne High results went to sophomore Gabriel Armstrong (36th – 20:56.9), sophomore Lance Brink (38th – 21:27.5), freshman Grady Maas (41st – 21:42.8), junior Boden Dobbins (42nd – 21:54), sophomore Ben Haschke (55th – 23:12), sophomore Julian Garcia (59th – 23:34.9), freshman Ethan Samuelson (64th – 24:05.9), freshman Hudson Rubendall (73rd – 26:23.5) and sophomore Cale Eischeid (76th – 27:00.4).

The top individual runner was junior Luke Woockman from Bloomfield/Wausa in a time of 18:10 among the 86 runners on the 5,000-meter course.

The Wayne Junior High boys were led by a sixth place medal from seventh grader Benjamin Patefield in a time of 7:35.6 as eighth grader Jacob Fehringer took 11th (7:40.89). There were 44 runner on the 3,000-meter course.

Other seventh grade results favored Tristen Klinetobe (28th – 9:05.6) and Owen Wynia (37th – 9:45.9). Other eighth grade times went to Daniel Kuchta (21st – 8:25), Quinten Kuester (27th – 9:04.8) and Isaiah Zarate (29th – 9:06.93).
