At Tuesday's meeting, the Wayne County Commissioners discussed bids and the ARPA funds.
First, the Board of Equalization approved the listing of omitted property and clerical errors on March's assessment roll.
The Commissioners meeting started with two bond payments. The first was the Highway Allocation Fund Pledge Refunding Bond Series 2021 Interest payment of $1,930.00 with a fee of $200.00, totaling $2,130 on June 15, 2022. The second was the Highway Allocation Fund Pledge Refunding Bond Series 2019 Interest payment of $12,368.75 with a fee of $200, totaling $12,568.75 on June 15, 2022. They also approved designating MIPS as the printer for the LB644 postcards.
Then Amy Miller, County Attorney, explained potential changes in the Adult Diversion Program. The current Diversion cordinator will not be able to continue with the program due to her current job at Faith Regional. Miller said they are looking for a replacement for the position and are currently looking at a possible candidate. She explained that they may have to change the diversion fee in order to cover costs but they are still working on the logistics of everything.
Don Skokan, Winside Fire Department, proposed using the ARPA Funds for their department. Skokan explained the work that this department did during COVID-19 and the risks that they had to take. He hopes to use the funds to help with equipment.
Julie Rother, Health Director of Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department, also gave her proposal for usage of the ARPA Funds. Rother talked about all the services and plans they made with COVID-19. She talked about the testings that they would do and distributing the vaccine when it first came out. Rother said they would like to possibly build a new place for them due to outgrowing their current space but would like to stay in Wayne if they can.
Finally, Mark Casey, Highway Superintendent, discussed the two culvert bids that came in. One was from Midwest Service and Sales with a total of $102,309.08. The other came from B's Enterprises for a total of $87,606.
The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will next meet in regular session on Tuesday, June 21 at 9 a.m. in the Wayne County Courthouse.
