Ikes to hold annual Open Gate Day

Posted

The Wayne Izaak Walton League has extended an invitation to all area residents to their Annual Open Gate day on Saturday, May 21.

The gate to the recreational area will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This day coincides with the Nebraska Game and Parks free fishing day so those visiting the lake do not need a license.

"All are welcome to come out to the area and see what we have to offer for outdoor activities," said Erin Eilers, a member of the Wayne Izaak Walton League.

While visiting the facility, everyone is welcome to fish, have a picnic, and enjoy the outdoors.

Ike’s Lake is located four miles north, two miles west, and a one-half mile north Wayne on the right side of the road.

"We encourage our members to use the area for fishing, canoing, camping, picnicking, and bird watching," Eilers said.

A 2022 Membership is $60, which is available at Ace Hardware in Wayne. Membership fees go into stocking the lake, area maintenance, upgrading the facility, as well as aquatic vegetation control to promote fishable areas.

Those with children or grandchildren are asked to mark your calendars.

"We are planning to have our annual youth fishing derby this year on the morning of Saturday, June 11.  The following day, Sunday afternoon will be rain out date.  More information will be released at a later time," Eilers said.
