Suprise Wedding is the result of call of duty

For most couples, planning a wedding takes months. However former Wayne resident Lyle "Bear" Lutt and his fiance Neisha Twaddle, put together a plan and a week later were husband and wife.

Lutt, a full-time firefighter for the Norfolk Fire Divisionand and member of the National Guard recieved word early in January that his National Guard unit might be called into active duty.

He and his fiance, who were originally planning a January 2004 wedding, decided that there was no reason to wait to get married and began making plans. One a few essential people were aware of the couple's intentions.

During what was to be a potluck meal and going away party at the Fire Division Station, Lutt and Twaddle exchanged wedding vows.

Sgt. Lyle Lutt, a graduate of Wayne High School, is the son of Kathryn and Delmar Lutt of Wayne. His grandparents in Wayne include Doris and Russell Lutt. He also has a sister, Lesa, a student at Wayne High School. He has been a member of the National Guard for five years.

His wife supervises the nuclear medicine department at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Mrs. Lutt had already selected a wedding dress and made other plans for the 2004 wedding and the couple plan to renew their vows with a 'real' wedding.

"This wedding was for us. The next one will be for our friends and family." she said.
