May 22, 1975 — 'Foundation's goal: to enrich WSC'
The primary purpose of the Wayne State Foundation is to "enrich the college," and that's why more and more Wayne people should get involved with it, said Foundation president Val Peterson. Speaking to Wayne Kiwanians Monday, Peterson said that state colleges such as Wayne State need foundations for additional financial support because there are some things that can't be done with state money. Peterson singled out the Foundation's loan and scholarship program which has helped students attend and graduate from the college. The Foundation also has provided money for research, summer music camps, public relations and purchasing works of art for the college, Peterson went on. In conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, the Foundation has also helped sponsor the college's annual Band Day. Peterson noted that since the Foundation began in 1961, about $400,000 has been raised. "Our goal is $1 million. Once we reach that figure, the second million will be even easier," he said.
