April 11, 1985 — Oswald on Junior Olympic team
Wakefield junior Julie Oswald is currently participating as a member of a Junior Olympic volleyball team, consisting of players from the northeast Nebraska and northwest iowa area. On Saturday, March 30, the team participated and won their first tournament of the season in Fort Dodge, iowa. Oswald saw considerable playing time during the eight matches played, working as a setter and back row player. The team's next action will be in a regional tournament in Cedar Falls this Saturday, April 13. A win at that tourney will advance them to play in Kansas City on Saturday, April 27. As a junior for the Wakefield volleyball team, Oswald was selected as captain of the 1985 All-Conference team and was an All-State honorable mention selection last fall as well. The 10-member team is coached by Marion Pesky of Briar Cliff College located in Sioux City, Iowa and Mary Schroeder, head volleyball coach at Wakefield High School.
