April 9, 2015 — Wells named NSIC Athlete of the Year
Wayne State senior and indoor national champion Sara Wells was named the Northern Sun Conference Preseason Field Athlete of the Year by conference coaches as the conference announced its preseason outdoor track and field honors. Wells won the NCAA Div. II indoor national title in the shot put last month and has recently established the top mark outdoors in Div. II early in the season with her throw of 51 feet, 10 1/2 inches at last week's Wildcat
Classic. The Wayne State teams are both picked for lower-half finishes in the conference race this season. The women were picked eighth out of 12 teams by conference coaches, while the men were picked to finish 11th. Athletes to watch for Wayne State are Wells and fellow senior Megan Svitak on the women's side, and sophomore Derek Lahm and senior Jared Balady on the men's side.
