Longtime editor will switch jobs
Longtime Wayne Herald news staff member LaVon Anderson has resigned to take a new job as special education aide with the Wakefield Schools. Mrs. Anderson has been with the newspaper since 1971 when she began working as receptionist after graduating from Wayne High School. Her 22 years with the newspaper included promotions to social editor and news editor, a post she now holds.
Her last day at the paper will be Friday, July 13. Anderson and her husband, Tom, live in Wakefield where he farms and is the owner of Anderson Lumber Co.
They have two children at home Ashley, 6 and Alex, 4. Anderson said she will miss the newspaper work but the move makes things easier for her family since she will be on the same schedule as her children as they attend Wakefield schools.
"It will be extremely difficult to replace LaVon, Herald Publisher Les Mann, who said the staff and management of the newspaper is sorry to see her go, said. "We're not going to let her leave entirely," he added, explaining Anderson will continue to write features articles for the Herald.
"She's won numerous press association awards for her writing and she is an exceptional community journalist and we want to maintain our association with her."
