Fair opens Thursday with free barbecue, fireworks

A free barbecue Thursday night and the largest fireworks display ever presented in Northeast Nebraska will highlight the Wayne County Fair, opening at the fairgrounds. The barbecue is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and 2,500 pounds of choice beef is being prepared for the event.

It will be served up with all the trimmings, baking beans, potato chips, relishes, milk, coffee, deviled eggs, ice cream - and all free.

Members of the Wayne Chamber of Commerce will serve the fare which has been donated by Wayne merchants, area cattle feeders, businessmen and individuals. Friday night, a spectacular display of fireworks will be presented in front of the grandstand.

According to Al Bahe, Fair Board secretary, it will be the largest display of fireworks ever presented in this area.

Admission to the grounds this year is $1 per person with persons 10 to 16 years old admitted for 50 cents. Admission for children under 10 is free and a season ticket this year is $2.
