County's oldest resident celebrates 105th year

Wayne County's oldest resident celebrated her 105th birthday Sunday during a noon dinner at the Presbyterian Church in Carroll.

Approximately 40 friends and relatives attended the dinner honoring Mrs. C. H. (Mary) Morris of Carroll, who was born Dec. 17, 1877.

The guest came from Lincoln, Decatur, Norfolk, Randolph, Stanton, Wayne and Carroll.

The Rev. Gail Axen recognized Mrs. Morris with a special prayer during the morning worship service.

Mrs. Morris, who resides in Carroll with her son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Morris, was born in Washington County between Blair and Herman, the second of 10 children.

She moved to the Carroll area with her family at the age of seven.

She attended school in Carroll for one year and then enrolled at Wayne Normal College.

Mary taught school in the Welsh community west of Carroll for seven years.

Her husband, Cradoc (C. H.) Morris, died in 1966.

They were the parents of four children including a son, Oberlin, who died in a car accident in 1963.
