Local girls take county 4-H honors

Two girls from Winside and one from Wayne were named senior division award winners during Monday night's annual Wayne
County 4-H achievement program at the city auditorium.

Division winners for the older youths were Vickie Baird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Baird of Winside, in home living,
Patti Holtgrew, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Holtgrew of Winside, in foods and Pat Dangberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Dangberg of Wayne, in clothing.

Junior division winners were Susan Rethwisch in homeliving, Marilyn Strate in foods and Kari Wittler in clothing.

Speaker for the evening event, which attracted about 175 persons, was Dr. John Orr, University of Nebraska-Lincoln extension specialist in 4-H and youth development.

Dr. Orr emphasized that 4-H is a brick in the wall of life and participation in 4-H activities is important in helping youths develop into productive adults.
