From the February 16, 2012 edition of The Wayne Herald:
Hoskins decides to step down
For the past four years, Wayne High volleyball coach Joyce Hoskins has spent a lot of time watching her oldest daughter, Katie, play high school volleyball.
Unfortunately, that time working with one child has come at the
expense of seeing her younger children participate in sports as well.
On Friday, Hoskins told Wayne Public Schools superintendent
Mark Lenihan that she was stepping down after 19 years as head coach of the Blue Devils. The move will allow her to not only see her oldest daughter play basketball at Wayne State College, but will give her the chance to watch her younger children - son Ben and youngest daughter Mollie - play sports as well.
Hoskins had a solid career as the Blue Devil mentor, posting a 338- 207 mark in 19 seasons, the msot wins by a volleyball coach in Wayne High history. She took the Blue Devils to state four times, won a pair of Mid-State Conference titles and has also coached in the Nebraska Coaches Association all-star game, which she will get to do this summer.
Lenihan, who said the school will begin a search for Hoskins'
replacement in the near future, said he had a lot of respect for her work as a coach.
While Hoskins will continue teaching at Wayne Middle School and will help the new coach get things going, she will miss the chance to develop relationships like the ones she has had over the years with her players.
