Local speech club competes in several meets
Over 60 women turned out for the Wayne Federated Women's Club fine arts festival Friday afternoon at the City auditorium.
Club members and school students vied for awards in the music, arts and crafts and sewing divisions of the contest for competition at district level.
Arts and Craft and sewing submissions were judged in the morning while music auditions were judged in the afternoon.
The afternoon program also featured an audio-visual presentation by Linda Nelson, music instructor at the Wayne Middle School.
Mrs. Nelson showed an animated movie made by her fifth grade student to accompany a Neil Diamond record of sounds of Africa.
The afternoon program included David Theophilus' extemporaneous reciting of several of her favorite readings. A silver tea was held , with proceeds earmarked for the All Faiths Chapel at Geneva.
Fred Weber, music judge, announced that the first place winner in the music contest was Michael Nuss' with his piano rendition of "Wedding Day at Trold," Op. 65., by Edvard Greig.
Women in the arts and crafts division included the fifth grade visual art, with the only double purple award, and Karen Baier, and Vaugn Glassmeyer.
Red ribbon winners were Johanne Moore, Sandra Utecht, Richard Carlson, and Patty Franzen.
Red ribbon winners were Joannie Haberer, Roger Niemann, Scott Glassmeyer, Karen Nolte, Roger Sahs. Clarice Schroeder and Vaughn Glassmeyer.
White ribbons were awarded to Jan Haun, Don Dutton; Jay Hummel, Sandra Utecht, and Lori Mandan.
Sewing entrants who received blue ribbons were Ed Sala, Dorothy Stevenson, Paula Stahan, Val Damme, Ella Reinhardt.
Red ribbons were awarded to Val Damme, Emma Soules, and C. Ingram.
Committee members in charge of the 1973 festival were Cliff Johnson, Chairman, Carlos Martin and Celia Asmussnen.
