February 26, 2015 — Winside finishes in top 10, area kids get three medals
Both of the Class D teams in the area were able to bring home medals from the 2015 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships. For Winside, there was hope that they might be in the hunt for a state runner-up trophy behind perennial power Amherst, who ran away with a sixth consecutive state championship.
It didn't quite work out the way coach Paul Sok hoped, however, as the Wildcats had to settle for a pair of third-place medals and a 10th place finish in the Class D team standings. Both Colby Erickson (126) and Marcus Escalera (132) finished with consolation championships to lead the Winside effort.
